Our History
One of the responsibilities of each Leadership Cabarrus class is to do a project that will give back to our community. Several non-profits filled a room and pitched their idea on how we, as a class, could help them. We had to decide among all the wonderful projects which one we would accomplish. The competition between our top two picks was almost too close to call! By a slim margin of a vote or two we decided to take on the Volunteer Fair.
The idea of a Volunteer Fair was presented by one of the non-profits with the intent of gathering all the non-profits in one public place where people from the community would be able to see who they are and what they do. The public would not only learn about the non-profits but volunteer for the one that best suited their personal interest. Many people were not aware some of these organizations existed. This idea appealed to us as a way to help all non-profits. There are so many worthy causes! Our hope was that if the fair was successful the non-profits could have an annual fair to gather volunteers and raise community awareness. Part of the project included a “how to” manual for the event which we passed on for future use.
A wonderful progression of ideas created this website for further community use in seeking and finding each person’s perfect volunteer opportunity. What a wonderful way to connect our community, cities and county. It has quickly been put to good use! We are proud of the caring, helpful, wonderful people we have right here in our community who make Cabarrus County a great place to call “Home”. Our first Volunteer Fair participants signed up over 200 volunteers and many people left trying to decide which one to choose. We continue to update and add to our website. Now it is your turn to choose how you would like to give back to your community. The needs are great and opportunity abounds!
With Much Gratitude
